Memphis Jookin' is a street style dance from the 80’s that originated in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s a stylized walk that primarily utilizes calculated steps, slides, and glides with precise timing to travel from one point to another on the dance floor. It is an evolution of an older Memphis line dance called The Gangsta' Walk.

The life of the dance, along with its unique step patterns, is it’s essential bounce which the dancer uses internally to control their momentum from head to toe all the while expressing themselves freely.

Jookin often effectively blends noticeable elements of popping and ballet into its expression and it’s practitioners mainly dance to a southern hip hop groove, which gives it a sense of familiarity to many dancers of different disciplines while still offering something fresh to both newly acquainted and experienced dancers.
